D Sheth (Former Vice President, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Ltd), Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa (Senior Drug Inspector, Govt. of Delhi) and Mr. S. L. Nasa (Registrar, Delhi Pharmacy Council).

PARADIDDLEFreshers day was hosted by second year students to welcome the freshers. Entertainment and cultural events were followed by personality round wherein Mr. Saurabh Satija and Miss Gunjan were judged as Mr. and Miss Fresher.

22nd Annual Conference of Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association was organized wherein Prof. Arun Garg (Principal, PDMCOP and Treasurer IPGA) presented the vote of thanks.

PDM college of Pharmacy along IPGA inaugurated 44th National Pharmacy Week by organizing a seminar on the theme “Know Your Pharmacist – Pharmacist in Health Care”. Speakers invited to mark the event were Prof. S. S. Aggrawal (Principal, DIPSAR), Prof. B. D. Miglani (Ex-Principal College of Pharmacy, New Delhi), Prof A. N. Kalia (HOD, Deptt. Of Pharmaceutical Sciences, MDU, Rohtak), Mr. P. K. Jaggi (Deputy Drug Contoller, Drug Control Department, Government of Delhi) and Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa (General Secretary, IPGA).

March 2006

The Annual Sports Meet was organized in which the students of Pharmacy and Engineering participated. The Pharmacy students got various prizes:

·         Dalbir Chawla, Ashish Gulia, Charanjeet (IInd B.Pharm), Jitender and Gaurav (Ist.B.Pharm)
won IInd Prize in 4 x 100 relay race.

·         Renu Ohlyan (Ist B.Pharm) won IIIrd Prize in 100 meter race.

·         Ragini Dhingra and Neha Maan (IInd B.Pharm) won IInd Prize in table tennis

·         Neha Maan (IInd B.Pharm) won IInd Prize in badminton.

March 2006

The Annual Function of PDMREA was held in which the Pharmacy and Engineering students participated in various cultural events.

Students have undergone an industrial practical training during the summer vacations in reputed Pharmaceutical Companies.

P.D.M. College of Pharmacy Bahadurgarh has organized a Fresher party “PARADIDDLE” on 28th August 2006.Where in the 3rd year, 2nd year and Ist Year B. Pharma Students presented a very entertaining show. The cultural programmes include Dance, Medley, Group Dances, Skits and Punjabi Bhangra. Among the Ist year students Mr. Fresher awards goes to Mr. Rahul and Miss Fresher award goes to Miss. Amolak. The students were provided with a lunch and the programme ended together with D.J. dance programme

 

October 2006

 

A Blood Donation Camp was organized by Prabhu Dayal Memorial Religious and Educational Association on 12th October, 2006 in which students voluntarily donated 525 units of blood.  Dr. Suprabha Dahiya, Deputy Commissionor, Jhajjar was the chief and inaugurated the event.

A Guest Lecture of a world renowned scientist and Nutritionist was organized by PDM College of Pharmacy on 9th November 2006. The speaker Prof. Abhimanyu Garg,is an MD Internal Medicine & Chief, Division of Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases at UT, South Western, Dallas, USA. He is a Senior Clinical Nutrition Research Scholar and also Associate Program Director at UT, South Western General Clinical Research Centre.  The topic of the lecture was‘Recent Nutritional concepts in Diabetes Management’.

MARCH 2007

 

ISTE sponsored “Development and Standardisation of Herbal Formulations” on 26th to 30th March.

 

 

PDM College of Pharmacy is organizing AICTE/ISTE sponsored Short Term Training Programme on “Development and Standardization of Herbal Formulations” from 26th March to 30th March. On 26th March, the event is inaugurated by lightening the lamp by the Prof. R.K. Khar, HOD, Dept. of Pharmaceutics, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi along with Mr. R. K. Rawat, Joint Secretary, PDMREA. The programme will continue for 5 days.  This is the 4th Seminar being organized by the college.  More than 40 Teacher/ Delegates from all over the country has registered for the Seminar.

 

 

 

 

 

Dr. Arun Garg, coordinator of the programme, welcomed the gathering of delegates and guests.  He gave a profile of the department and stressed the need of continuing education programmes for development of skills and knowledge on recent advancement in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences.

 

 

Major Baldev Singh, Estate Officer, PDMREA proposed a vote of thanks.

 

 

The keynote address on the theme was delivered by eminent Prof Shahid Ansari from Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi who emphasized the need for Developing Standardized conditions of herbal drugs. According to him the herbal raw material should be pure and free from impurities.  The cultivation of herbs must be optimized, as in different regions the amount of active constituents varies.  He also comments on the proper handling and storage of herbs.   According to him more Governments Research Centers should be opened for the Developments & Standardization of herbal drugs.  

The Global market of herbal drug is 76 billion $ including herbal drugs, herbal dietary supplements and herbal cosmetics and is going to be increased @12% every year.  The global market of herbal drugs are Germany, France, Europe, Japan, America and Asia. The WHO estimates that 80% of the world populations rely on traditional medicine to meet their daily health requirement.  Dr. Ansari told during the seminar that India has huge potential for export of herbal drugs as raw material extracts and herbal formulations, but these needs to be of constituent quality and therefore standardization of herbal drugs is very important.  He also stressed that Government of India should include more herbal drug standards in Herbal Pharmacopoeia.

Prof R.K. Khar, in his inaugural address, spoke about the programme and his personal experiences as a researcher. He stressed on the need for Good Manufacturing Practices, Good Laboratory Practices and Quality Control in herbal Drugs which improves quality of product.  Dr. Khar also appreciated the building and infrastructure developed in the college and praised the efforts put in by Dr. Arun Garg in organizing the ISTE sponsored Seminar.

Over the next 4 days, a number of lectures and demonstrations will be arranged as part of the programme and faculty members, from PDMCOP will deliver the lectures. The delegates and students will be taken on specially arranged visits to the nearby industries and research centres.

On the post lunch session Mrs. Hema Chaudhary, Lecturer, PDM College of Pharmacy, spoke about Herbal drugs used in Atopic dermatitis.  She stressed on the types, causes, symptoms, diagnosis & treatment of atopic dermatitis along with the product ratings of different herbs used for the treatment.

The day’s inaugural address was given by Dr. Naveen Sharma from Ranbaxy Labs, Ltd.  He spoke upon Global herbal market scenario & its trend.  He also stressed on India’s potential in herbals.  According to him market surveys must be done in order to understand the requirements to enter global market, Regulations & laws prevailing over there & then strategies must be made so that we can compete with the Global market.

 

 

 

Prof. Dr. A.N.Kalia in his address threw light on medicinal plants based industry.  According to him the major Herbal industries includes essential oil industry, Phytopharmaceuticals, Natural health products industry, Nutraceuticals, Herbal cosmetics & personal care products etc.  He also addressed the problems faced by Indian Herbal Industry & the possible solutions for it.

In the post lunch session Mr. Vineet kumar, Visiting Faculty, PDM College of Pharmacy delivered a lecture on “Plant tissue culture: from basics to applications in Pharmaceutical Sciences”. He gave a broad idea of PTC-History, factors affecting PTC, basis of PTC & its applications.  He also pointed out the advantages of plants as bioreactor & its applications related to Humans.

In the end of 2nd day i.e. 27th March, 2007 Mr. Sunil Khatak, Lecturer, PDM College of Pharmacy delivered a lecture on “Development & Implementation of Quality Control of Ayurvedic, Siddha & Unani products in India”.  He stressed on the infrastructure available for Indian system of medicines including institutes of Ayush, courses of study & statutory regulatory bodies & Acts for Ayush.

The Third day was marked by a specially arranged industrial visit to Arbro Pharmaceutical Ltd., Kirti Nagar, New Delhi & DIPSAR.

In the Arbro Pharmaceuticals Ltd., the delegates visited the manufacturing division, Analytical division & Clinical Research Organization.  In the manufacturing section all the sites i.e. stores of incoming raw materials, dispensing of materials, Quarantined materials packaging & labeling materials were briefly discussed with the Director Production/Manufacturing unit.

In the Analytical division the delegates were able to have a good view of all the analytical instruments like HPLC, HPTLC, Karl fisher titration,  automated disintegration & dissolution apparatuses, AAS, IPC-MS, HPTLC-MS GC-MS, LC-MS etc.  A brief detail regarding working of the instruments was told by Director Analytical division of Arbro Pharmaceuticals.  In the CRO section, the discussion was primarily based on the ways of clinical trials, handling, evaluation & management of healthy volunteers/patients.

The post lunch session was worked by a visit to DIPSAR where the delegates were able to interact with the Principal & other faculty members.  The delegates were told about the various research activities going in DIPSAR particularly relating to Pharmacological division & a broad view of all the research labs was presented to the delegates by the authorities of DIPSAR.

The day was marked by an inaugural address about “Role of modern analytical techniques in standardization of Herbal medicines” by Dr. R.A.Singh, Director Technical, Arbro Pharmaceuticals Ltd.  He presented a broad view of various techniques used for standardization which included physical, chemical, instrumental & microbiological but his main focus was on Analytical (Instrumental techniques) like TLC, HPLC, HPTLC, HPLC/LC-MS, GC, GC-MS, Flame photometry, AAS, ICP-MS/OES, U.V.-spectrophotometry etc. Dr. Singh presented a detailed working of all the instruments, protocols for analysis using all these instruments.

Then Dr. Singh was followed by Mr. V.K.Chhabra, Diector, Arbro Pharmaceuticals Ltd, New Delhi.  His address was on “Expectations of Pharmaceutical industry from pharmacy graduates” He briefly described job profiles in industry for new recruits for manufacturing, testing marketing etc.  He also stressed on the need for thorough knowledge of various in process control, unit operations, Q.C. equipments, labeling requirements for different formulations & special provision relating to Export & Import of materials/products.

In the post lunch session Dr. Arun Nanda, Reader & HOD of Pharmacaceutical Sciences, MDU, University, Rohtak in his address spoke on “Regulatory considerations for botanical drugs”.  He presented a broad view of safety categories of Botanical drugs as per WHO guidelines. His main stress was on the regulatory requirements/considerations of herbal/botanical drugs in countries likes USA, Canada, Japan, Europe, EU, Germany, UK & India.  He presented a broad view of various acts & rules and definitions prevailing over these countries regarding to botanical drugs.

Mrs. Sanju Nanda, Senior Lecturer, MDU, Rohtak in her inaugural address spoke about “Herbal Cosmetics Issues & Challenges”.  She presented a broad view of types of herbal cosmetics based on different types of classifications like chemical, morphological, functional etc.  She stressed on the Issues of herbal cosmetics with includes-formulation issues efficacy, stability, safety, economic, regulatory & consumer issues.  She also spoke about challenges relating to herbal cosmetics like consistent quality, standardization, packaging, shelf-life, incompatibility, heavy metals, pesticides etc.

Mrs. Mamta Khatak, Lecturer, PDM College of Pharmacy spoke about “Aromatherapy in Care & Cure of illness”.  She spoke about history, working, uses of Aromatherapy.  She stresses on the essential oils used, there chemical constituents & uses of essential oils in various ailments.

The day’s first speech was by Mr. P.P.Sharma, Ex Director Drugs Controller, Govt. of Delhi on “Research guidelines for Evaluating Herbal Medicines”.  While going for research he stressed on purposes of research, selection of research projects, research approaches, access to databases, protocols preparations, Quality specifications, non-clinical studies, clinical trails objectives phases, ethics etc.

He also spoke about Research guidelines as per WHO & the recommendations of working group on safety & efficacy of herbal medicines in Helsinki Declaration.

P.D.M. College of Pharmacy Bahadurgarh has organized a one-day seminar on 16th Aug, 2005 on the topic “Graduate Pharmacist Challenges and Opportunities”. The seminar was presided by Sh. M.M Sharma, Managing Director, P.D.M.R.E.A. Prof. Arun Garg, Principal P.D. M. College of Pharmacy, welcomed the speakers and presented a brief report of the activities of the college. He assures the students that the college is striving hard for imparting quality education in pharmacy and will be one of best college in Haryana. Prof. Jag Mohan, Director Bio-Medical and Basic Sciences, stated that the research activities in Pharmaceutical chemistry will be initiated in the college soon so that faculty could obtain PhD degree.

 

The Chief Guest of the Seminar, Prof. P.D. Sheth (Former Vice President, Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd. with more than 50 Years of experience in Pharma Industry) presented a talk on “Emerging trends in Global Pharma Business”. He gave a Bird eye view on Global Pharma Industry, Emerging Trends in Indian Pharma industry, The Indian Global Pharma Companies and its opportunities, and the skills needed for a Pharmacy graduate to be a successful Pharma technocrat in the industry .He emphasized training in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratories Practice (GLP), Good Clinical Practice (GCP) for the pharmacy graduates. The Guest of Honour Mr. Atul Kr. Nasa, Senior Drug Inspector, Govt. of Delhi, gave a lecture on “Opportunities of Pharmacy Graduates in Regulatory Departments”. He presented the various career opportunities in drug control departments in the country. He also stressed that for global pharma business the pharmacist should be well aware of the latest drugs regulatory requirements and pharmacist trained in drug regulatory affairs have a lot of career opportunities. Mr. S.L. Nasa, Registrar, Delhi Pharmacy Council, emphasized the role of Pharmacist in Health care system of India. He stressed the need of patient counseling and rational use of drugs for avoiding drugs interactions, drug induced diseases and effective disease management. The seminar was followed by interactive session by faculty and students.  At last, Prof. Arun Garg, Principal, concluded that the more interactive programmes as per the needs of Industry will be conducted in future complimented with industrial visits/training for skill development.  The seminar ended with the vote of thanks to the speakers and other dignitaries present in the seminar.

 

 

       

 

 

PDM College of Pharmacy, Bahadurgarh along with Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (IPGA) New Delhi inaugurated a 44th National Pharmacy Week by organizing a seminar on the theme “Know Your Pharmacist – Pharmacist in Health Care” on 21st November 2005.  In college campus, the seminar was presided by Er. M.M. Sharma, Managing Director, Prabhu Dayal Memorial Religious & Educational Association (PDMREA), Prof. Arun Garg, Principal, PDM College of Pharmacy welcome all the speakers and presented a brief report about activities of the pharmacy college.  He also apprised the guests that the college will be undertaking patient counseling programme during the National Pharmacy Week by the students and staff of the college at the Chemist Shops of Bahadurgarh, Rohtak, Gurgaon and Delhi.  The students have been trained for General patient counseling and in particular about Diabetes Management.  He also announced that Mr. Dalbir Chawla B. Pharm. student has secured IIIrd position in the merit in MD University examination and ensured that quality of education and results will be improved in years to come and PDM College of Pharmacy will be one of the best colleges in Haryana.

 

The Chief Guest of the function Prof. S.S. Agrawal, Principal, Delhi Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research, Delhi University, has enlightened the students with his talk on “Drug Food Interaction”.  He presented the interactions between foods like Cheese, Grape Juice, Coffee, Alcohol etc. with various drugs and explained that these interactions can be avoided by educating the patient by patient counseling.  He emphasized that the image of the pharmacist can only be improved if he become an important link between physician and patient by undertaking patient counseling.  He said that pharmacist should play an important role in National Health Policies, Like AIDS, Malaria, Polio, Bird Flue vaccination, Tobacco cessation programmes

 

Prof. B.D. Miglani (Ex-Principal College of Pharmacy, Delhi) delivered the key note address and explained simple points which should be kept in mind while doing patient counseling.  He stress that pharmacist should have good communication skills, sound knowledge of drugs and a gentle professional outlook for effective patient counseling.

 

The Guest of Honour, Prof. A.N. Kalia, Head of Department, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, M D University, Rohtak in his lecture on the theme said that Pharmacist should feel proud to be an important part of the integrated environment health care system.   Pharmacist should feel proud of its profession as he is not a simple dispenser but has to play several roles such as in Drug Research and Development, Clinical Research, Bulk and Drug Formulation Manufacturing, Quality Control and in Health Care Team.  Pharmacist provides authentic drug information to patient and physician for quality and safe use of drugs avoiding medication error, adverse drug reaction and overdose.  He also informed the audience that 60 drug manufacturing plants in India are USFDA approved and India is producing the top quality medicines which are exported allover the globe.

 

Mr. P.K. Jaggi, Deputy Drug Controller, Drugs Controller Dept., Govt. of Delhi explained the importance of drug regulatory affairs and opportunities linked with it.

 

Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa, General Secretary, IPGA, elaborated the activities of IPGA all over the country.  He called upon students from different colleges under MDU to join hands with IPGA by becoming its members.  On this occasion the IPGA has honoured all the merit holder of M D University for B. Pharm Ist to IVth Year.  Merit holder from various colleges received awards from Prof. S.S. Agrawal, Prof. B.D. Miglani and Prof. A.N. Kalia.  Finally Mr. Atul Kumar Nasa delivered the vote of thanks.
